How our carers can help
Saffron Support, help individuals in their own homes to live independently, with the reassurance that we can assist with their medication.
- Picking up prescriptions from the pharmacy or supporting with arranging a delivery from the pharmacy to the client.
- Ensuring that the medication is stored correctly.
- All of Saffron Support staff are trained in the administration of medication or prompting of medication.
Administration of medication
Administration of medication is useful when an individual is becoming confused as to whether they have take their tablets. Saffron Support come in and talk through the client’s concerns, write up a care plan and create a Medication Administration Record chart (MAR chart.) The staff members check the MAR chart agains the original boxes supplies by the pharmacy or GP and then give / administer the tablets. This gives the family and client peace of mind and less worry about their medication, as it has all been taken care of.
Prompting medication
This method is used when a client wants to keep their independence and stay in control of their medication. Here at Saffron Support, we like to promote independence. We would encourage and support a client to have a pharmacy filled dossette box, this enables the client to be able to see all their tablets clearly in a day and time order, for example am, lunch, tea and bed. You just simply pop out the tablets for them correct day and time. Prompting medication from a carer would simply be “have you had your medication” “please can I just check your Blister pack” “yes I can see they are gone or look they are still here, shall I pass you the blister pack and you can take them now”
Medication is an important part of keeping ourselves fit and well so with a little extra support it can make a life changing differences.
